How to Discover, Map and Monitor Every Device on a Network
Breeze RMM finds every device on a client's network with an agent already at the site, draws a topology map only from links it measured, and watches printers, switches and access points over SNMP and ping checks, with no appliance to install.

What's in the demo
- Network Discovery → Profiles for Acme Manufacturing: "Acme HQ LAN" sweeps 10.20.4.0/24 with PING, ARP, SNMP and PORT_SCAN, Daily at 02:00, Active, with a Run now button
- The Assets tab: 12 discovered devices with type chips (2 workstations, 1 server, 2 printers, 2 switches, 1 firewall, 2 access points, 2 unknown). ACME-SRV-01, ACME-WS-014 and ACME-WS-003 carry the Agent badge; the switches, printers and access points have none
- Filter to Pending 3: a Raspberry Pi at 10.20.4.88 with port 22 (ssh) open, then approve the Brother printer BRN30055C116221 and the count drops to Pending 2
- The Topology tab: ACME-FW01, ACME-SW-CORE and ACME-SW-SHOP, with lines only from LLDP/CDP neighbours and bridge (FDB) tables. ACME-AP-WAREHOUSE carries a red dot and reads Offline in the inspector
- The Network page: 4 monitored assets. Both switches and ACME-PRN-FRONT read "Responding · SNMP", polled v2c every 15m; ACME-AP-WAREHOUSE reads "Not responding · network check", 1/1 active
- ACME-AP-WAREHOUSE: the header reads Not responding · Network check, and the Monitoring tab shows the check "Ping ACME-AP-WAREHOUSE", icmp_ping 10.20.4.11, Offline, last error "Request timed out"
- ACME-PRN-FRONT printer health: Idle · Warning, a Toner low chip, Black Toner 12% Low (Cyan 64%, Magenta 58%, Yellow 71%), lifetime pages 48,213
- Settings → Monitoring on the printer (v2c, 900 s, Collecting, no network checks) → Add check opens the monitor editor prefilled: "Ping ACME-PRN-FRONT", Network check, ICMP ping, target 10.20.4.20, consecutive failures 2, severity High
Questions this video answers
- How does Breeze RMM discover devices that have no agent?
- Create a discovery profile under Fleet Management → Network Discovery → Profiles. It names the subnets, the methods (ping, ARP, SNMP, port scan) and a schedule, and an agent already at the site runs the scan. Everything it finds lands on the Assets tab, including printers, switches and access points.
- How do I tell managed from unmanaged devices on the network?
- On Network Discovery → Assets, a device that already runs a Breeze agent carries an Agent badge that links to its device page. Anything without the badge isn't managed yet. New devices arrive as Pending until you approve them.
- Does the Breeze RMM topology map guess connections?
- No. The Topology tab draws a line only where Breeze measured one: LLDP/CDP neighbours or a switch's bridge table, plus any link you add yourself in Edit map. The legend says which source each line came from.
- Can Breeze RMM monitor printer toner over SNMP?
- Yes. A printer polled over SNMP shows its status, each toner level (low is 20% or under), and the lifetime page count on its device page. The Network page lists every monitored device and which check says it's responding.
- How do I get alerted when a printer or switch goes offline?
- Open the device, then Settings → Monitoring → Add check. That opens a network-check monitor already bound to the device; by default two failed pings in a row count as down. Save it and deploy it through the client's configuration policy, and a failure raises an alert.
A note on the demo: both discovery profiles read "Not run yet" even though a scan finished six hours earlier (a known bug in this build; the results are what the Assets tab shows). The Network page's Type column prints "Access_point", and the map legend shows an untranslated label. The new ping check is opened but not saved. All company, device and address data is fictional.
